Carpentry and Joinery 1st year apprentice Stuart Queen has gained 3rd place at the recent Scottish Association of Timber Trade Teachers (SATTT) competition held at Borders College.

HNC Construction Management students were treated to a day out in Glasgow, to visit a number of construction sites, seeing first-hand, many of the topics they have been learning about in class.

Darren Gray, 20, from Troon, has been selected to represent Ayr College at the Scottish regional heat of SkillBuild – the UK’s largest multi-trade competition.

As part of the recent Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Week, a national campaign to show how science and engineering relate to everyday life, students at Ayr College organised their own event showcasing science to fellow students, staff and invited primary school children.

The South Ayrshire County Finals of the Primary Engineer Programme have taken place at Ayr College. Sponsored by Spirit Aerosystems, the event saw schools from across South Ayrshire competing in a series of different events involving vehicles they had designed using a shoebox chassis.

Ayr College students are being given a unique insight into the UK’s largest onshore windfarm. The 12 students are studying to become wind turbine technicians through a specially-devised diploma launched in March that is supported and part-funded by Whitelee Windfarm operator ScottishPower Renewables.
