Non advanced Funding Information
Ayr College has its own dedicated team of Student Finance staff who are located within the Information Centre on the ground floor of the main building. Staff are available Monday to Friday 8.45 am to 4.45 pm to answer specific queries. The Student Finance Office also operates a "drop-in" service although busy times of the year may require you to call and book an appointment.
Further Education Bursaries
All full-time non-advanced students should apply for Bursary funding. If you are eligible for Bursary funding, depending on your age and personal circumstances, you may qualify for allowances in respect of your general living expenses, travel expenses and course expenses.
Part-time funding may also be available for help towards travel expenses and course expenses.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
The scheme applies to all eligible students aged 16 or 17 years engaged in an approved learning agreement for a minimum of 21 hours per week.
The scheme will pay a maintenance allowance of up to £30.00 per week. It is a condition of the EMA contract that a student must have 100% attendance each week to receive payment.
Scottish Ministers reserve the right to review the EMA programme at any time. We plan to review the programme in December 2010. Any award made will only be guaranteed up to the end of December 2010.
Bonus payments will no longer be available for Academic Year 2010/11.
To apply for Bursary/EMA funding simply complete an Ayr College Bursary/EMA application form once you have been offered a place on a course and return it to the College.
Further Education Discretionary Fund (FEDF)
The Discretionary Fund is used to provide financial help to students where access to, or continuance in, further and higher education might be inhibited by financial considerations.
Full-time students and some part-time students who satisfy the residency criteria are eligible to apply for financial assistance from the Discretionary Fund but not all students who apply will receive financial support. Funds are limited and awards will vary according to individual circumstances. To be considered for assistance from the Discretionary Fund, students must have applied for all other financial assistance available to them.
Childcare Fund
All part-time and full-time students may apply for assistance with necessary childcare costs to allow them to attend College. This will be funded from the Further Education Discretionary Fund or from the European Social Fund or from the Childcare Allocation provided by the Scottish Funding Council.
Childcare funding will only be available where registered childminders / playgroups / nurseries / after school clubs are used and will be provided only for the days on which the student is timetabled to attend College.
Ayr College’s own nursery, Brightsparks, should be used wherever possible. Government Pre School Education Assistance will be taken into account when assessing applications.
Students should note that we cannot guarantee to pay childcare costs in full, although every effort will be made to do so.
The information leaflet "Non Advanced Funding" provides guidance, information and rates for those considering applying.
