Course Details

What You Need

Applicants must be in employment to start this course and must be physically fit, healthy, adaptable, well motivated and good at working with their hands.

This course is designed to support industry and is the main method of entry to an apprenticeship as a Painter and Decorator.

Applicants wishing to embark on this course should apply to the Construction Industry Training Board for an application form and you will be expected to sit an entry test. Assistance to gain employment with a local Painter and Decorator is given by CITB and the College attendance, in first year is 21 weeks.

Preparing and Painting Timber, Metal and Plaster Surfaces
Producing Colour Schemes
Hang Patterned and Plain Ceiling and Wallpapers
Applying coatings by Airless and Air-assisted Spraying Methods
Producing Broken Colour Work Effects
Appreciating of Scaffolding


Employment from day 1 is a significant advantage combining paid employment and study.

The second year of the apprenticeship involves 9 weeks in college.
