What You Need

Applicants must be in employment to start this course and must be physically fit, healthy, adaptable, well motivated and good at working with their hands.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed to support industry, and candidates must have secured an apprenticeship as a joiner before enrolment. Applicants wishing to embark on this course should apply to Construction Skills (CITB - Construction Skills 0300 456 8897) or online at http://www.cskills.org/ thereafter you will be required to sit an entrance test.

Assistance to gain employment with a local builder as an apprentice joiner will be provided by Construction Skills. Candidates must be in employment to start this course and attendance follows a block release pattern 19 weeks in first year and 14 weeks in second. This combines paid employment and study.

What subjects will I be studying?

You will study the following subjects:

•Conform to General Workplace Safety
•Install First Fixing Components
•Install Second Fixing Components
•Erect Structural Carcassing Components
•CITB Health and Safety Test
•Confirm Work Activities
•Develop and Maintain Good Working Relationships
•Confirm the Occupational Method of Work
•Maintain Non-structural and Structural Components
•Integrative Assessment in the Construction Industry
The integration of PDA Level 6 units

How many days will I be in college?

You will attend college on a block release basis as detailed above.

How will I be assessed?

The units you will study form the training and assessment programme used in Scottish Further Education. This provides the evidence required to meet the National Occupational Standards and the PDA Level 6 in Bricklaying. For further information visit www.ukstandards.org.

How do I fund my course?

Construction Skills pay course fees where your employer is under the CSkills umbrella.

Employers or Training Providers usually pay fees where CSkills are not the main Sponsor.
