Course Details

What You Need

You will need three relevant Standard Grades at General Level or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent. A place on this course is subject to an interview process.

All students will be interviewed but you may also be asked to undertake a Core Skills test to determine that you have the required level to be successful on the course.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who would like to gain experience in the painting and decorating industry which may help secure an apprenticeship as a painter and decorator.

What subjects will I be studying?

You will study the following subjects during the course:

Mandatory Units will include:

Prepare and paint surfaces
Construction Drawing 1 : Introduction
Construction Occupation Practices Introduction
Construction Safety Practices : An Introduction
Efficient Construction Practices
Decorative Painting
Decorative Treatments
Paperhanging : Foundation and Plain Paper
Paperhanging : Patterned Paper
Colour Practice

Course content will include:

Essential Skills

How many days will I be in college?

Normally 3/4 days, however you will be given your timetable when you attend your Induction Day.

How will I be assessed?

Students will undertake trade specific Units leading to the Group Award.

Assessments are carried out on an on-going basis and are mainly practical.

Moving On

Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 6 or employment.
