You will need three relevant Standard Grades at Foundation Level, or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 3 or equivalent.
Those without formal qualifications, but who have an interest in the subject area should also apply.
A place on the course is subject to an interview process.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed to give you a chance to try a range of trades including Brickwork, Building Conservation Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Electrical and Plumbing. Learners will gain valuable site experience in the use of lime mortars and building conservation.
This is a highly practical course which will provide an overview of the entire Construction Trades sector.

During the course you will study:
Brickwork: Practical
Building Conservation: Practical with a little theory
Carpentry and Joinery: Practical
Painting and Decorating: Practical
Electrical Work: Practical
Plumbing: Practical
Core Skills: Information Technology, Numeracy, Problem Solving, Working with Others
How many days will I be in college?
Normally 3 days, however you will be given your timetable when you attend your Induction Day.
How will I be assessed?
The course consists of a range of units, modules and tasks. Assessments are carried out on an on-going basis.
Units undertaken within this course will develop your Skills for Work and you will complete a range of assessment models and products on an on-going basis. You will complete simple written assessments although this is kept to a minimum in the units undertaken. Your employability skills will be developed and assessed during the course. You will carry out self-evaluation of your own work and learn to be self critical to enable you to plan your own areas for improvement.
Moving On
Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 5 or employment.
This will depend on your results and positive feedback from your lecturers.

You should apply for a Bursary. You can get a Bursary/EMA Application Pack from the Student Finance Office located in the Student Information Centre at Ayr Campus once you have been offered a place on the course.
