Course Details
What You Need
You will need three relevant Standard Grades at Foundation Level, or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 3 or equivalent.
Those without formal qualifications, but who have an interest in the subject area should also apply.
A place on the course is subject to an interview process.
All students will be interviewed and you may be asked to sit a Core Skills test after your interview to determine that you meet the required level to be successful on the course.
Who is this course for?
The course is designed to give you a chance to try the popular trades of both plumbing and electrical.
It is a highly practical course and will give you an opportunity to try out both trades and consider which one you would suit you best. This course will look to improve on your skills in IT, Digital Photography, Text, Email etc.
What subjects will I be studying?
As the course progresses you will study the following subjects:
Plumbing: Practical
Installing Sanitary Ware
Lead Work
Guttering
Soldering
Pipe Bending
Health & Safety
Electrical Work: Practical
Metal Trunking
Plastic Conduit
Wiring Lighting Circuits
Wiring Ring Main
Health and Safety
Electronic Communication: PC’s, Phones, Cameras
Core Skills: Information Technology, Numeracy, Problem Solving, Working with Others
How many days will I be in college?
Normally 3/4 days, however you will be given your timetable when you attend your Induction Day.
How will I be assessed?
Assessments are carried out on an on-going basis throughout the course.
Moving On
Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 5 or employment.
This will depend on your results and positive feedback from your lecturers.
How do I fund my course?
You should apply for a Bursary. You can get a Bursary/EMA Application Pack from the Student Finance Office located in the Student Information Centre at Ayr Campus once you have been offered a place on the course.
