Course Details

How do I get in?

You will need four relevant Standard Grades at Credit Level, or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 5 or equivalent. A place on the course is subject to an interview process.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who is interested in the study of human behaviour and the social sciences.

Popular career choices from a social science course include; central and local government, the voluntary sector, social welfare, public relations; Education, finance, health and social care, all areas of the criminal justice system, the media, public services, campaigning and research.

What subjects will I be studying?

During the course you will study the following subjects:

Psychology
Sociology
English

How many days will I be in college?

Normally 3/4 days, however you will be given your timetable when you attend your Induction Day.

How will I be assessed?

You will have continuous assessments throughout the course and final exams in May/June.

What can I do next?

Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 7 or employment.

This will depend on your results and positive feedback from your lecturers during the course.

Alternatively you may choose to apply for to an HNC/D programme other than Social Sciences, or an undergraduate degree course.

How do I fund my course?

You should apply for a Bursary. You can get a Bursary/EMA Application Pack from the Student Finance Office located in the Student Information Centre at Ayr Campus once you have been offered a place on the course.
