Course Details

How do I get in?

You will need three relevant Standard Grades at General Level or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent.

A place on this course is subject to an interview process.

Due to the nature of the course you will need manual dexterity, enjoy meeting people and most importantly be of smart appearance.

Who is this course for?

If you want to become a Junior Stylist, this course is the perfect springboard for your future career.

Over two years, you will learn all aspects of salon work from styling to reception and health and safety skills - gaining heaps of practical experience in our modern salons.

What subjects will I be studying?

You will cover:

Health and Safety
Advise and consult with clients
Shampoo and conditioning
Setting and drying hair
Hair cutting
Colouring hair
Giving a positive impression of your salon
Core Skills

Your hairdressing equipment will be supplied by the college.

How will I be assessed?

You will have to undertake numerous assessments throughout the year, some of which will be carried out on clients and some will be theory based.

What can I do next?

Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 6 or employment.

This will depend on your results and positive feedback from your lecturers throughout the year.

How do I fund my course?

You should apply for a Bursary. You can get a Bursary/EMA Application Pack from the Student Finance Office located in the Student Information Centre at Ayr Campus once you have been offered a place on the course.
