Course Details

How do I get in?

You will need a minimum of one relevant Higher at Grade C or above, or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent. Applicants with appropriate experience or other training may be accepted without formal qualifications.

A place on this course is subject to an interview process.

All applicants will have significant experience of working in an appropriate care related setting.

Your application will need to be supported by two credible referees.

Successful applicants will apply to join the PVG Scheme or have their Scheme Records updated.

Who is this course for?

This course is most attractive to anyone with existing care experience intent on personal and professional development. It provides students with an integrated course of values, skills and knowledge to work effectively in a range of care settings.

What subjects will I be studying?

During the course you will study the following subjects:

Psychology
Social Care Theory and Practice
Sociology
Social Policy

and 4 workplace based SVQ Units

As there is a practical element to this course you will be expected to undertake a work placement as part of the course.

How many days will I be in college?

Normally 2 days with an additional 2 days a week spent in a care work placement.

How will I be assessed?

You will undertake a significant practical placement as the course progresses along with continuous class based assessments.

There is a practical assignment which will be externally graded.

What can I do next?

Progression to employment or university, which may include articulation arrangements with a variety of degree courses.
