Course Details

How do I get in?

You will need three relevant Standard Grades at General Level or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent.

A place on this course is subject to an interview process.

Students who have suitable alternative qualifications may also be considered.

One supportive reference is required and successful learners will be disclosed.

All students will be interviewed and you may be asked to sit a Core Skills test after your interview to determine that you meet the required level to be successful on this course.

Who is this course for?

You may be thinking about a career as an Early Years Support Worker, Practitioner or even eventually becoming a teacher.

This course will help you develop the skills, knowledge and qualities you will need to progress in a career in childcare.

As the course progresses you will study subjects such as:

Child Development & Health
Play
Promoting Positive Behaviour
Partnerships in Early Education & Childcare
Early Years Curriculum: An Introduction

There is a practical placement on this course.

How many days will I be in college?

Normally 3 days, however you will be given your timetable when you attend your Programme Induction.

How will I be assessed?

You will undertake continuous class based assessments during the course.

What can I do next?

Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 6 or employment.

This will depend on your results and positive feedback from your lecturers.

How do I fund my course?

You should apply for a Bursary. You can get a Bursary/EMA Application Pack from the Student Finance Office located in the Student Information Centre at Ayr Campus once you have been offered a place on the course.
