What You Need

4 relevant Standard Grades at credit level or a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF level 5 or equivalent.

A place on the course is subject to an interview process.

Those without formal qualifications, but who have an interest in the subject area should also apply.

You will also be required to do an audition.

Candidates must perform an audition of at least one piece (completely) on at least one instrument (which may be voice) to a minimum standard of around ABRSM Grade 3 or equivalent.


Who is this course for?

Do you love making music? This course will give you a solid foundation which you will need to a successful musician. You’ll perform and record live music and learn how to best promote your band.

You’ll also learn about theory and history of music and develop skills on your chosen instrument. Whether you are planning a career in the modern music industry or simply feel you would benefit from a year spent in an exciting musical environment, this course will set you on the right track.

What subjects will I be studying?

Course units include:

Music: Aural Skills
An Introduction to the UK Music Industry
Creative Project
Appreciation of Music
Music: Live Performance
Music: Songwriting
Music: Promotion in the Music Industry

How will I be assessed?

You will undertake continuous assessments throughout the course.

How many days will I be in college?

Normally 3/4 days, however you will be given your timetable when you attend your Induction Day.

Moving On

Sucessful completion of this course may lead to progression on a wide range of relevant vocational courses at the SCQF level 7 or employment.

The decision will be made depending on your results and positive feedback from your lecturers as to your suitability.

How do I fund my course?

You should apply for a Bursary. You can get a Bursary/EMA Application Pack from the Student Finance Office located in the Student Information Centre at Ayr Campus once you have been offered a place on the course.
